The PCS10 series Pulse Current Source allows precise pulsed-current generation for both inductive and resistive loads. It features two models:
-
PCS10-1000B – Maximum pulse current up to 1,000 A
-
PCS10-3000B/E – Maximum pulse current up to 3,000 A
The pulse energy is supplied from an internal capacitor bank and can reach up to 2 kJ depending on the pulse repetition rate, voltage, and model. Pulse termination can be based on either pulse duration or maximum current, which can be finely set in 1 A increments.
Pulse duration is adjustable between 3 µs and 130 ms with 500 ns steps. The unregulated voltage remains approximately constant if the pulse energy is small relative to the capacitor bank energy. The USB or RS232 interface allows remote control of all pulse parameters, and the system returns the maximum current after each pulse.
Two fiber optic and one TTL trigger outputs enable precise synchronization with external devices or transistor drivers. Both rising and falling edges can be software-adjusted for delays in nanosecond to millisecond ranges. This allows accurate coordination of external switching devices with the pulse output.
Additionally, the PCS10 series can perform continuity and leakage tests using 1 mA or 10 mA constant current (limited to 10 V) to verify load integrity, making it ideal for testing high-power semiconductors such as IGBTs under realistic operating conditions.
