The RIGOL DS1074Z Plus Digital Oscilloscope is designed for engineers, technicians, laboratories and educational institutions that need four-channel analogue measurement with the option to add digital logic analysis.

The instrument provides 70 MHz analogue bandwidth, four analogue channels and a maximum real-time sampling rate of 1 GSa/s. Its integrated digital-channel interface allows the oscilloscope to be upgraded to a mixed-signal configuration by connecting the optional RPL1116 16-channel logic probe.

This makes the DS1074Z Plus suitable for general electronics testing, embedded-system development, analogue and digital circuit debugging, power-supply analysis and production validation. RIGOL’s UltraVision technology provides deep memory, intensity-graded waveform display, fast acquisition and waveform recording for investigating both repetitive and intermittent signal behaviour.

70 MHz Analogue Bandwidth

The DS1074Z Plus provides 70 MHz bandwidth across four analogue input channels.

It is suitable for analysing:

  • Microcontroller clock and control signals
  • PWM waveforms
  • Sensor outputs
  • Analogue amplifier circuits
  • Power-supply ripple
  • Switching regulator control signals
  • Communication interfaces
  • Audio and control circuits
  • Input and output signal relationships
  • Phase and timing differences

Its calculated rise time is approximately 5 ns. The effective measurement bandwidth also depends on the connected probe, grounding method, source impedance and signal connection.

Four Analogue Channels

The four-channel architecture allows users to observe several related signals simultaneously.

Typical measurements include:

  • Clock, data and enable signals
  • Input and output waveforms
  • Voltage and current correlation
  • Multiple power rails
  • Sensor signal and controller response
  • High-side and low-side control signals
  • Reference and measured waveforms
  • Multi-stage timing sequences

Four-channel acquisition is particularly useful when debugging systems where one signal event affects several parts of a circuit.

Optional 16-Channel Logic Analysis

The “Plus” designation means the instrument includes a digital-channel interface. Adding the optional RPL1116 logic probe activates up to 16 digital input channels.

This mixed-signal capability supports:

  • Time-correlated analogue and digital analysis
  • Microcontroller GPIO debugging
  • FPGA and CPLD testing
  • Parallel bus analysis
  • Clock and data timing analysis
  • Digital control-system troubleshooting
  • Observation of power behaviour during logic switching

The digital channels are not available without the compatible RPL1116 probe. The probe should therefore be listed separately unless it is confirmed as part of the commercial package.

Channel-Dependent Sampling Rate

The DS1074Z Plus provides a maximum real-time sampling rate of 1 GSa/s.

Typical analogue sampling allocation is:

  • 1 GSa/s with one channel active
  • 500 MSa/s per channel with two channels active
  • 250 MSa/s per channel with three or four channels active

The available sample rate is shared across active acquisition channels. Engineers should consider this allocation when measuring faster signals on several channels simultaneously.

The sampling rate, analogue bandwidth and signal rise time together determine how accurately the oscilloscope represents a waveform.

Deep Analogue Acquisition Memory

The DS1074Z Plus includes 12 Mpts standard analogue memory depth.

Typical standard memory allocation is:

  • 12 Mpts with one analogue channel active
  • 6 Mpts per channel with two analogue channels active
  • 3 Mpts per channel with three or four analogue channels active

The optional memory upgrade increases the maximum record length to 24 Mpts:

  • 24 Mpts with one analogue channel active
  • 12 Mpts per channel with two analogue channels active
  • 6 Mpts per channel with three or four analogue channels active

Deep memory allows longer waveform captures while retaining a useful sampling rate.

It is beneficial for:

  • Long serial communication packets
  • Power-supply start-up sequences
  • PWM and pulse-train analysis
  • Embedded-system timing measurements
  • Intermittent fault investigation
  • Extended waveform monitoring
  • Production validation

RIGOL identifies 12 Mpts as standard and 24 Mpts as optional. A product bundle may include the memory option, but this should be confirmed before publication.

Digital Acquisition Memory

When the digital-channel capability is used, the official product information lists:

  • 6 Mpts standard digital memory
  • Up to 12 Mpts optional digital memory

Digital memory depth depends on the active logic-channel configuration and installed options.

It supports longer logic acquisitions for:

  • Parallel bus analysis
  • Digital timing measurements
  • Microcontroller debugging
  • FPGA signal observation
  • Embedded-system troubleshooting
  •

Fast Waveform Capture

The DS1074Z Plus provides a maximum waveform capture rate of up to 30,000 waveforms per second under specified operating conditions.

Fast waveform acquisition improves the probability of detecting occasional signal events such as:

  • Short glitches
  • Runt pulses
  • Timing violations
  • Unstable waveform edges
  • Signal dropouts
  • Abnormal pulse widths
  • Intermittent noise
  • Communication faults

The intensity-graded display uses multiple brightness levels to distinguish frequently occurring waveform activity from rare events.

Hardware Waveform Recording and Playback

The oscilloscope supports hardware waveform recording, playback and analysis.

This function allows users to:

  • Record successive waveform events
  • Replay acquired signals
  • Review frames individually
  • Compare normal and abnormal waveforms
  • Investigate intermittent faults
  • Examine events preceding a failure
  • Perform post-acquisition analysis

Waveform recording may depend on the installed option configuration. Its availability should be verified on the supplied instrument.

Vertical Measurement Range

The analogue inputs provide a vertical sensitivity range of:

  • 1 mV/div to 10 V/div

The instrument uses 8-bit analogue-to-digital conversion, providing 256 vertical quantisation levels.

The vertical range supports measurements of:

  • Sensor outputs
  • Logic signals
  • Amplifier waveforms
  • Power-supply ripple
  • Reference voltages
  • Audio signals
  • General electronic circuits
  •
